Changing signal icons

I am trying to use metamorph to install 3g icon in status bar.....its not working.... Can someone tell Me how to manually place the pngs into framework-res......i have root explorer and have been reading and researching. What does “cracking” the apk mean and how do I do it? thanks for any help on this.

First, is your USB Debugging on? Second, I attatched a blank MM file. Unzip it and place your icons in the drawable-hdpi folder, then put in your Android Themes folder on SD Card. Choose existing themes, pick the Status_Bar_Icons file. Then click on the green M file. dialolg box appears, click ok or accept (I don't remember what the prompt is). Then apply all. (Just putting all this on here for newbies) This is a working base file I use for .png edits. Sometimes MM if fickle. Just apply and reboot. If it doesn't take the first time, try again. I use MM constantly and have never had a problem with changing .xml's, icons, and themed apps. Hope this helps.
