When I'm outside and not near a WiFi, I cannot get the browser to connect. This is my first smartphone and I must have the settings wrong. At home, the phone recognizes my router. What should I do?

I'm not familiar with the Stratosphere, but check in your wireless settings to see if you have background data turned off, or if you have the phone set to Airplane mode, prior to going to WIFI.

There may be other causes but that's all I can come up with at the moment.

WiFi only goes so far. When you're away from a WiFi connection your 4G should kick in.

Thanks for these answers. I've taken all of the above suggestions and will try to connect to the browser when I go out.
