One of the GSM providers in Thailand is promoting this dongle made by Huawei. It takes a SIM card and you can opt for a 12G per month package for $15.

Plug it into to your car and you have a moving hotspot.

The dongle costs $25.

Seems like a neat product to me.. Have you seen something like this?

I had a jet pack with Verizon in 2013. It was about the size of a pager and was a an LTE hotspot. Had decent battery life and reception on it was no worse than the craptacular that I had with my phones. The data plan was crazy expensive though so I only kept it during the trial period.

I was gonna say, VZW still has some sort of dongle like this. Kind of a cool idea if you travel a lot with kids who've got phones tablets/etc that're wifi only, but I don't travel a whole lot. I think using the hotspot on my phone or the wife's would do the trick for us if we had my stepson with and felt like giving him wifi would help the trip go smooth.

For me it is better buy a regular MiFi. You not only can use it in car like this dongle, but practically everywhere as long as the coverage from the carrier exist.
