App Installers Won't Run

I attempted to install an APK (Pimlical calendar app) by using APKInstaller. It would not run and I had to keep hitting force close. Tried Astro and Apps Installer and all do the same. I did get the file onto the SD card on the Droid2 but can't install. I also downloaded a file manager but it doesn't find the secure something folder that's on the card and says it needs to be mounted but if I go to PC mode or charge for the USB that disappears and it recognizes the card. It actually says it doesn't find the card when I have the USB cable in an notification set to USB transfer. Appreciate any help, thanks.
