What is everyone's opinion on running a virus program on the X?

Is it really needed? (you never know what's in an app I suppose)

How much will it slow the phone down vs. the safety benefits?

Do you use one now?

If you do, what program do you recommend?

I've only had my X for a month now and it's running great. I would just like to get an opinion on this subject. Thanks!

At this point I wouldn't bother. The risk is still very low. Still I'd recommend following these two basic rules even if you had the software.

1) Anti-virus software will seldom keep you safe from malicious apps. Get your apps from trusted sources like the Market, or do enough research to make sure the developer is trustworthy.

2) When you see bait, look for the hook. Don't visit porn sites or other questionable internet destinations while on your phone.

There was some controversy over a possible Trojan a while back. The media, being the media, called it a virus.

To the best of my (very limited) knowledge, Windows is the only OS consistently and heavily attacked by viruses. This doesn't stop the the tech media and/or the anti-virus software companies from warning you about every possible new doomsday.

That said, I can think of only one reason to install anti-virus software on your phone. It might keep you from passing something along to one of your buddies, if you are one of those people who can't resist forwarding emails of dubious origin just because they are funny or cool or something.

I've got nothing personal against porn itself, however surfing for porn is risky. The pop-ups alone almost qualify as malware.

If you want to get people to visit your malware infested site you need bait, and porn makes the best bait. I'm sure that there are reliable, safe, and perhaps even tasteful internet destinations for the connoisseur of titillation. Try finding one some time using a search engine. Be sure to do it on a fully protected computer with pop-ups blocked.

Well, so long as you don't have anything against porn. :icon_ banana:

I had one on my Droid 1 and it locked it up several times. I deleted that app and had no more problems. Doubt I will ever put it on my X.
