Answering the phone

Sometimes I get puzzle pieces when the phone rings, and other times I get the regular buttons. Is there a way to make sure I only get the puzzle pieces?

Don't be using your phone when a call comes in, therefore having your phone locked at the time?

This seems to happen regardless of whether I'm using the phone or not.
