Would you recommend droid mod?

As others have said, I started out with DroidMod and loved it. Absolutely no problems. Much faster than stock and much easier on the battery.

I recently switched to UltimateDroid, which is even faster than DroidMod was. BUT for me personally I'm having way more problems with UltimateDroid than I ever was with DroidMod. Nothing I haven't been able to fix after some tinkering, but if you just wanna toss something on your phone and have it work flawlessly, DroidMod is an excellent way to go.

Now that I've tried other ROMs, the only downside I've found of DroidMod is it runs a little warm. I was regularly into the 120s,often into the 130s. Now on Ultimate with Adamz low voltage kernel it is a STRUGGLE to get it past 110.

how to you get other roms such as ultimate after rooting with droidmod?

you can download other roms in this forum, then simply used nandroid to install it (do a backup of yours). just read up on how to go to sprecovery then do nandroid backup/restore.

Yup, I just made a Nandroid backup of mine so I had something to fall back on, and then installed UltimateDroid using the Nandroid restore technique. When you click the thread for a rom you want they will give you instructions. You're coming from 2.0.1 going to 2.1 so make sure you go the Nandroid route.

+1 for droid mod. It is a nice starter rom and it also transition well to other roms. I used droidmod to install ultimate droid 5.0 when it was released a while back.

Sorry for such a dumb question, but is there a way to avoid a wipe when going from 2.0.1 to 2.1? or is there a way to restore that stuff? thanks

wait, i just had an idea to do a partial restore of data only... would that work after updating to 2.1?

No issues here with heat. I have been up to 110 but that is as high as it has ever gotten

Did the droid mod yesterday. All is good so far. Will I go any farther? Not sure. BB has a lot of neat things that I might try in the future but I want tomake sure that all is stable on the DM before I do anything else.
I say do it!

The droidmod team aims to releases only stable and significant updates. Their next update will likely be 2.1 based and won't be released until after the OTA.
Droidmod won't release weekly updates, and I'm gratefult that they take the time to test any update adequately before release.

And I strongly advise wiping your phone prior to flashing. I've flashed with and without wiping. Your phone will be faster and you battery will last longer if you wipe prior to flashing, and its definitely worth it!

Edit: didn't realize this thread was 3 pages already, sorry if I restated anything.

What do you mean by wiping?

when you flash the rom you will have 3 options
wipe data save apps
wipe data
save data

pick either wipe data or wipe data save apps.

To install a rom, u have to go into recovery mode, (from an 'off' state, hold 'x' on keyboard and and turn phone on), and from their you will have several options including being able to choose which rom u want if u have multiple roms on your sd card. (Do this after u have sprecovery, nandroid, and busybox installed. Installing droidmod installs these apps for you)

Before installing a rom, u should perform a nandroid backup (this is one of the options in recovery mode). After that, choose the option to wipe phone.
You would then install the new rom. After the new rom is installed, go back to recovery mode and do a nandroid restore to get apps and data back. Use nandroid in conjunction with titanium backup (found in market) and titanium will restore your settings. Then you'll be good to go with a new rom. Expect some tweaking though.

This is just a breif run through, if u want me to go into detail, send me a pm. I know it can be scary modding a new device, nothing gives you confidence like knowledge! Keep reading the forums too!
