Those 386-40s were nice. In most cases, they'd outperform a 486DX/33. At one point I had a system based on the Cyrix Cx486SLC/25 - I upgraded it to a 386DX/40. Yes, it was a significant UPGRADE.
IIRC the Cyrix sucked #$%^. I had one that I couldn't run XP on it. I think it was an MX version.

Yea, mine had 8 megs of ram. Which back then was a huge deal. And yes, I built it myself. None of this pre-bought crap. I still do with my HTPC's.

If I didn't know better (that you are BS-ing us), i'd say that would be a Jelly Bean build.

It will be a future jb build though ;)

Sent from my 1.600 ghz 3615 quadrant score ICS .247 DROID BIONIC

Same here, only off-the-shelf PC I ever had was a Dell 4550 that I purchased as a stop-gap when my Duron crapped the bed. Got it for a steal so went with it, used it for about a year (massively upgraded, of course) and then built my Athlon 64.

D@&m youngsters! Back in my day we had abacuses and darn happy to have them. You kids with your newfangled sillycone chips!

LOL Damn I remember my first computer was a Tandy TRS-80 color computer version 1, not long after that I built my first 8080 IBM clone with 64K of ram dual 5.25 floppy drives. It was so excited when I got my first 5MB hard drive! Who remembers those intel 512K above boards?? I have been building them ever since!

Was not a trs-80 just a color computer lol! old brain fart!

I have disabled most of the bloatware you recommended, except Text Messaging and Voicemail, which I use. I have Smart Actions set to turn off WiFi, GPS, cellular data, and background sync when the screen is off. My battery is down to 20% in a little under 7 hours. With 246/247, I jumped from 1.0 GHz to 1.2 GHz max, and I now have virtually continuous 4G. These improvements are much appreciated, but could they have cut my battery life nearly in half? Is factory resetting the only solution?

Might want to give it a few days/power cycles and see if it improves before doing a factory reset. Sometimes new builds need some time to settle down.

I need a new laptop. This Vaio is getting old. 4 gigs, aging 3450 graphics, pimped out 500 gig hdd with ssd cache, core2duo. It's seen better days. I don't usually keep machines this long. I need something better to Dev on.
