Will not update

I have a Motorola Droid, and it is currently running software 2.0.1. I know there have been more updates since that one, but I cant seem to install them. Ive gone into the settings, and that tells me that the phone is up to date. Ive also downloaded the 2.1 zip update online, trasferred to the sd card, held down power+x, and tried to install it that way. It says:

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.

I have been unable to get past this problem. Can anyone help?
