I have the Moto Droid...tried to manually install froyo update from sdcard and keep receiving error and installation aborted. Here's the message:
Finding update package.....
Opening update package....
Verifying update package...
Installing update package...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.

I have sbf recovery installed on my phone. Installed via RSD Lite. Verizon pushed the update to my phone but the installation failed so I tried to install it manually via sd card. Installation is still failing. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!! I don't know what else to do!

need some details about your setup?
1] were you rooted/nonrooted b4 the manual update?
2] were you using the default/stock recovery?
3] when you say you sbf, which file?
4] which Froyo update did you try to flash? please provide link download.

I have sbf recovery installed on my phone
do you mean you have SPRecovery installed?

status 7 happens when the updater applies the update it first checks to make sure the old Android OS matches Google's official code (signature verification check). This is to protect your phone from being bricked. this happens when:
1] non-rooted phone installing a custom rom (sapphire,cm6, etc)
2] you made changes to your droid that blocked the update/flash
3] update being flashed is not official from Verizon.

Sorry, I meant SPR Recovery. I have SPR packed by SirPsychoS (0.99.3b).
I downloaded it from the Droid Forum.

No it is not the stock recovery. Phone is not rooted. Firmware version 2.1update 1, Kernelversion: 2.6.29 Build number: ESE81
I tried to install the Froyo update that was flashed from Verizon and it wouldn't install so I did a search on the forum to try and update it manually.

I downloaded the update to my sd card from this site:
Froyo for Droid has arrived; here's how to get it without waiting [#Froyogeddon] | Android Central
After following the directions, I still got the same error message

I am so frustrated. Maybe the solution is to go back to the stock recovery but I don't know how to do that. Help!

You cannot install stock 2.2 if you have SPRecovery on your Droid it will block the install. Do you still have superuser permissions? If so you are rooted and need to return to stock.

Yes, I would try what RodNoc_er posted. However, I think it's hard to not be rooted and retain the SPRecovery. But the first linked thread that RodNoc_er posted should get you up and running.

good luck
