Will droid x work with alltel?

Ok. Newbie question...

My girlfriend has a chance to get the droid x for an upgrade from verizon. I have alltel trough work and hate the blackberry they gave me. Is there any way for me to take her droid x and use it with my alltel service?

Alltel is operated as an independent company out here FYI.

Alltel was bought by Verizon, however not all Alltel area's became Verizon area's. The last I saw Verizon had sold off the remaining Alltel stores to yet another company (I'm thinking T-Mobil, but I could be wrong).

I know that many people were upset because they were going to have to give up their Droids for another Android phone. Call your provider to find out for sure.
