Why

when my phone rings it first says Verizon wireless---then it rings maybe 2x's-----then it's silent & vibrates--- then it starts the process over again
WHY??---I have it set to ring only

Check under settings/sound.
Roaming tone should be deselected. This should fix it. Keep us posted
