Why no app to backup data?

The few that I've looked at require root and I'm not interested in doing that just to back up data. I seems like it should be simple if "My Backup" and similar apps can backup all the apps and contacts etc., why no data? That would seem to be pretty basic. I switched phones an lost all my notepad text files and my poker scores that I worked for a year to achieve.

I remember using Helium back in the day ..not sure if it's still around ... I still lost some data in my non root times ..
