why does "messages" show Facebook contacts?

I am a new Droid user and I have the Incredible. The one thing that is really bothering me is that the "messages" app or widget is linking facebook friends to it. For instance, if I want to create a new message, and I type a letter into the "to" box...say "L", it lists everyone from facebook with the letter "L" in the first or last name. It's annoying. Can i stop this?

Try unsyncing FB contacts. Home Screen > Settings > Accounts & Sync > Facebook for HTC Sense > uncheck the Sync contacts box.
