Why did you root?

I personally havent cn or noticed any downsides...besides if u try and dnt feel its ur cup of tea u can always unroot...so its a no lose choice...

coworker jailbroke his iphone and i could not be outdone. then i showed him the wifi tether and OC capabilities and never went back. also to get rid of the USELESS facebook app.

OK, Tell me. What is the grandest thing you are doing since rooting and why you did it? Just curious what one can do that would make it worth while.

I rooted because of SholesMod updater, now DroidMod. Their application ran through all the commands I felt I could screw up. From there, I didn't want anything unstable, so I kept MOST of the 2.0.1 stuff (left out the launcher, but kept 2.1 MT browser, 2.1 gallery, don't use music).

The biggest thing for me is overclocking. 800 mHz just makes this thing fly and is entirely stable. And setting the phone to 125/250 when sleeping or standby has actually made the battery life BETTER in my experience, though the phone is working harder when actually in use.

I've used WiFi tethering when in a tight spot a few times and it's great, but not something I want to make a habit of.

Five homescreens without having to run a home replacement app is sweet, too.

Rooting can be what you make of it. Some people flash ROMs all the time, try new things, push the limits of the phone. I just wanted mine to be similar to how it was, but snappier with a few extra features. I felt great about how Sholes 2.0.2 was running, and it was so smooth and did everything that I needed that I didn't even upgrade to the subsequent ones. I'll probably stick with where I am until 2.1 launches and DroidMod puts out a stable 2.1-based ROM.

Hard to go wrong with rooting it.

^^ call and ask... ;)

Not sure your gonna find anything saying it in writing, but kinda common sense, you've modified the way the phone operates and what you can access. Anything that happens after will be blamed on you if you bring in a rooted phone for service.

If you're really looking though:

Not only being able to overclock and have a screamin' droid compared to my friends, but I have the ability to underclock when my droid is sleeping in my pocket or low on battery! My friend's non-rooted droid kept running out of juice when I still had 30% or more left.:icon_ banana:

Just do it! You know you want to!:icon_ devil:

Beacause of more control over my phone has been routed i can talk and look at videos love the nandroid backup lol overclocking terminal emulator. Because your phone sucks It runs by protocol

Is there even a point to rooting a 2.1 Droid device?

Yes...

SetCPU to over/under clock your phone requires it.

Titanium Backup to make backups of your apps and their data requires it.

SPRecovery to do .img backups of your entire phone requires it.

Wireless tether requires it.

You don't need to install a custom ROM but having root is very much worth it.
