Who is getting it day one and who is waiting???

I will probably get the Bionic as soon as it is released. My OG Droid was doing well and I thought I might wait it out, but it has been acting up lately and I am getting sick of it.

I am probably suffering from some paranoid psychosis, but I am convinced that as soon your contract is up Verizon sends a signal to your phone to make it start working like crap. :)

lol, I used to think this as well, but I've had my OG since day one and it's working like the day I bought it. It's actually the one reason I decided to wait a few weeks on the Bionic, I think if my original Droid was failing, I'd probably jump immediately on the Bionic.

::waits for Verizon to zap his OG now::

Having had the Photon 4G for almost a month, I have to say that I'm impressed with this line. I loved the Photon. It was reliable, I never saw it stutter and every app opened fast enough to the point that I couldn't even see it initialize. I only returned the phone because of the lack of coverage the few times where I needed it the most. Even then, I still had a hell of a time bringing myself to return it. The screen was much better than I had imagined... super bright whites, jet blacks, amazingly resilient to smudges and wide viewing angles. The Evo 3d looked very washed out when I checked them side by side (and I love HTC). Also, the radios where very strong compared to other phones on the same network. I usually got two days on a charge. And, for the most part, I even like the new Motorola interface.

To answer your question though, I will fight both tooth and nail to have the Bionic on day one because I am assuming that the phone will have a build quality and yield performance on par with the Photon 4g (albeit with LTE and better coverage/3G). I'm also in a position where I have to upgrade soon. And, frankly, I have not seen anything (including the Prime) that blows me away to the point where I wouldn't be happy with this phone.

I know that I am making some assumptions, especially in-light of what Verizon has the potential to do to a phone. But, I don't see this as being that far behind the curve. If it truly is similar to the Photon, I know that it will have those subtle qualities that keep me happy for at least the next year.

The original Etna Bionic which was canceled was similar to the Photon 4g, not the one we'll be seeing in September(Targa Bionic).

Well Im gonna not only be a day one purchaser, as soon as the preorder is up im snagging one. I might of waited, but 4 days ago i dropped my phone and destroyed that thing (i was not drunk at all ;) haha). So the sooner the better for me, phone withdraw is starting to kick in.

I've never bought a phone on launch date and I want this to be my first. Only thing is my NE2 date is 9/16, so unless the reps are nice and let me get it a week before my NE2, I'll have to suffer and wait a week. Gonna be a long week of getting jealous reading posts on here about how sweet the Bionic is!

If Verizon was stupid they wouldn't allow you to upgrade early, but all's you have to do is threaten to leave and you'll get the bionic. That's how I got the Droid 1 from the storm 1 on launch day. I for one will be getting this pre order. I'm tired of waiting and this is a phone worthy of an upgrade from my d1. If I wait to see what comes out next month ill be in the same boat as I am now. Omg! The vigor and prime are coming out! Ph wait is that a quad core phone?! You must be kidding me Google's coming out with a meatloaf sandwich phone! Its a never ending circle. Dual core, 1gig, lots of memory, better screen, plus 4glte! Sign me up!

I would definitely hold out for the meatloaf sandwich phone.... but I might get a few, to hold me over until contract renewal.

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't realize that seeing that, other than the processors (and of course the Wimax vs. LTE radios), they seem very similar. I'm really hoping that the screen has the convex edges and coating similar to that of the Photon. It was a really nice touch. Smudges where a big issue on my Original Droid. Not so with the Photon. I really like convex/concave edges as well. Looking at my OD, the bezel at the edges of the screen where a) sharp and b) worn. It would be a nice to have.

I plan to pre-order as soon as its available. 4G is to become available real soon, so upgrading to a 4G phone will be worth it. My DX, seems laggy and the screen locks up a lot.. The bionic, appears as it will work on the motorola lapdock. I fear they may incorporate a tether charge like sprint... And trying to research as much as I can prior to release... Or pre release so I dont regret my mistake. Lol

If your OG Droid can do everything you need it to and works properly, I see no reason not to...

I really want this phone day 1 but I do have an issue. currently am running a rooted x.
First I have to have wireless tethering, I do not have internet at my girlfriends house so we use my wireless tethering to access netflix and the internet on my computer. both work incredibly well.

so in regards to the above, I guess I have to stay with my droid x which is rooted until the bionic is rooted. (anyone know how long)

can't be without wireless tethering and I will not pay measly 2 gigabytes!

so waiting 4 root I am
