which platform ... kids, learning & puzzle apps

for an upcoming birthday, 1 yr old. the child is advanced and he can put shapes into properly shaped cutouts (beside walk, run & other things).

i want to get him a tablet, i prefer android myself, but don't know how much app support of this kind exists for the xoom (3.0) vs. iOS for the iPad.

anyone have experience with android 3.0 and childrens/learning apps ?

Not android .. but our daughter (2 years old) uses the ipad as well as we do. And there are several apps she uses and loves. She has learned her ABC's, colors and shapes playing the learning games.

i had a feeling that iOS would be a better platform for childrens apps ... likely going to be an ipad or an ipod touch. easier to put music and movies on it too so the baby can listen/watch.
