Where do contact pictures come from?

My sister just got a new Bionic, and some of her contacts are showing up with pictures of the person that she hasn't assigned. I know about Facebook and stuff syncing pictures to contacts--but these are people she has never associated with on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or anything. Just people she has texted and emailed, but has never assigned pictures to. How are these pictures getting there?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I wasn't able to find anything.

It could be from her old phone eg lg envy... Or any phone that she assigned pictures probably from backup assistant

If the pics are not from Facebook profile - Possibly they too have gmail or google talk and the pic displayed is from their personal profile.

Anytime I gmail another gmail or vica verca the other gmail contact is added to my contacts via gmail. So if their gmail profile has a picture it comes also.
Kinda sucks if you email someone once you automatically have a new gtalk friend
