Wheel not working while trying to root

My wheel does not work during the final step to scroll down and select "flash zip from sdcard" during the 1 click htc eris rooter, other wise the wheel works fine, can anyone help? thanks

There's a different recovery that's made just for that. You just have to flash the trackball optional recovery and then you can use the send button and volume down instead of the trackball.
