Ever notice that those older movies give you a chance to talk during the movie? The newer ones seem to be non-stop dialog and longer scenes of no music too. I was watching "Thunderfoot and Lightfoot" with my son recently and it went too slow for him. Lots of outdoor scenes with no dialog at all. Bridge Over the River Kwai was like that for my wife but I enjoyed that one too.

Yes and the quite time allows one time to think about what the writer is trying to communicate. The ever popular "thrill/shoot em up" do not give one time to do anything. I wonder what that says about society?
12 Angry Men- The simplicity and acting have always blown me away. Shawshank Redemption- best adaptation of a Stephen King story. Blade Runner-sci fi just doesn't get better than this. Alien-OK, maybe it does. Love Actually-has become a Christmas tradition
After that, have to go with Man on Fire, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and finally Mr. Hollands Opus.
BUT, I think Avatar enters it's own catagory of movies that are just a real treat to watch, and in this catagory nothing even comes close except the Lord of the Rings trilogy. These movies simply take me to another world and make me believe in the characters.
