What's the next "big" phone coming out?

Google's Nexus One smartphone.

There will always be something that is better right around the corner.
Nexus One will be newer but not "better" than the Droid.

Depends on the point of view. Not better as in no keyboard.... way better in that it has a 1ghz snapdragon.

How much difference will the faster CPU make between it and the Droid in everyday use? Faster and more powerful is great. But, will we see leaps and bounds difference?

To me, a faster processor is a good thing. I've never heard the new 1ghz processor's be described as overrated, but to each his own.

The pictures and specs you saw of "Passion" was the Nexus. The Nexus is not coming to Verizon. HTC is manufacturing the "Google Nexus" Phone, but it is not a typical HTC device. They were simply paid by Google to manufacture the phone. HTC produces phones with "Sense UI" and the Nexus will not have it, as it is not a true HTC phone. HTC is not producing a clone of the Nexus either. Let me repost something I said earlier...

Verizon had already rejected the original notion of the "Google Phone"...and if the "Google Phone" is indeed the HTC release in January, which has now been reported for weeks..it will not be coming. This is why the "Google Phone" was to be GSM only..pre-production Verizon denied Google.

It's pretty much common sense this was the original "Google Phone." 4G and LTE will be deployed by the end of 2010 and then in 2011 we can expect to see all phone releases to be on that type of network. Unless you are saying the "Google Phone" will be a 4G phone released in January of 2011, this was the only opportunity for them to release it. Time is running out on 3G..it would make no sense to release a 3G phone in August of 2010.

This was the phone that that Google wanted to be carrier-free, and fortunately it will not be. Because if it is limited to only Edge on AT&T...it will not be promoted as a legitimate phone for the carrier and will be imprisoned to T-Mobile where it will slowly die.

Sorry Google...make a decision about what you want to do. Do you want Android to be the main Mobile OS of all manufacturers to combat WinMobile and Apple's sole device, or do you want to be like Apple and produce 1 product line of phones with your OS. Can't have it both ways...for now.
[And if you do the manufacturers you persuaded to use the OS will look elsewhere, therefore damaging your marketplace value. Its the nature of the cellular industry and those are safe-guards placed so no one company can put a stranglehold on it.]

I guess what I was getting at is the Droid isn't a slouch. A update here and there and well still be in the game. Underdogs for sure but the average user want notice. The ones that want cutting edge will notice the difference. I wanted something I didn't have to pull the battery everyday and wait 5 minutes to load something. In a year or two something will be out that will have us all foaming at the mouth over. The Droid will be still be a player with updates and added apps until then.

Whats going on with the bravo, passion, dragon whatever all I hear about is the nexus now is there still going to be a 1ghz phone on verizon b/c I am think of taking my droid back and going back to my crappy omnia and wait for something with a better camera and no slide out.

Read above...

What you read was the "Passion." The Passion/Dragon was the Nexus. The Nexus is therefore not coming to Verizon. The Passion/Dragon/Nexus is the "Google Phone." The "Google Phone" has been rejected by Verizon as I state at the top of this page.

there never was a "Google Phone" it's simply an ADP3 device.

There was a lot of misinformation floating around.

It's just another Google Experience device ala the Droid

Rumors are that it will be released sometime during the first quarter of next year, possibly in January. It will only be available on T Mobile.

im pretty sure that google is going to sell this thing unlocked as well. with it being on the GSM version of CDMA it will work with both T-Mobile and ATT.

I have a buddy who has an original Google Account and is waiting to get his for a cheap $199 once google starts selling them.

No.. there was a Google phone. The Google Phone is the Passion/Nexus. It was originally to be sold by Google and unlocked. Due to Verizon's rejection of it, they went GSM based. Google failed in its goal.

This is why the Nexus is not an HTC phone and will have no logos or characteristics of an HTC phone, yet being manufactured by HTC. HTC was simply a hired gun by Google to manufacture the phone. It will not have "Sense." This was the phone that Google claimed to be "the vision" of what they thought a device should be. (In other words, nothing more than their opinion just like HTC, Samsung, Motorola, etc.)

(Note: Right now, unless AT&T makes changes, the Nexus was only receiving EDGE speed data, not 3G. A serious limitation. This is why T-Mobile has gotten the order from Google to promote it like they did the G-1, etc. This was not the original plan by Google but they have been forced to save face and change marketing strategies.)

I find the keyboard awkward and pretty poor. The keyboard on my Blackberry Curve was very nice, but on the Droid the on screen is a whole lot easier for me. Ironic that I chose it over the Eris because of the physical keyboard, eh?
