What is rooting my Droid Incredible

Ok so I'm new to Android. Just got a Droid incredible and I want to know what rooting is. I understand its something like jailbreaking an iPhone, but will it delete everything as well?

No, it doesn't delete anything. It allows you to do basically whatever you want to on your phone though. And best of all, It doesn't affect anything unless its something that YOU do.

if u haven't yet, please review the link to better understand. 13th Angel is right, its the user that may not understand the concept so read carefully once rooted and installing/flashing new ROMS etc

Once u root i suggest getting cyanogen mod 7 , currently running on my droid inc.
