What is dialer storage?

I got the low on phone space message this morning. When I went into the app manager, DIALER STORAGE was first on the list with 30mb. I cleared the data, figuring it would erase my call log or something. But it didn't. I'm not sure what it did erase, and when I searched on the forums, nothing came up.

It erased your text messages.

Sometimes this gets way bigger than it should, so it's not a bad idea to clear it from time to time.
