I have moto droid 1, and for some reason when I turn the phone on instead of doing the "droid" sound effect it just beeps like 4 or 5 times instead. I'm running launcher pro with 5 screens and some widgets, I am not rooted. Any idea what this problem might be? As well as I feel like my droid has slowed down a bit over the last month or two is that mainly just cause i have a lot on the 5 pages? and if not how can i speed up and get rid of lag on my phone?

The sound on startup is the default system sound. It happens when the SD card is mounted, although there's an option to turn that off in phone settings.

As for phone lag, uninstall task killers and antivirus. Delete any widgets or live wallpapers you can do without. Reboot your phone and look at what runs on startup. Try to find alternative apps that don't run on startup. For example, I use Pandora instead of Slacker because Slacker runs on boot.

so don't use any task killer? Is killing apps bad for the phone? Also how do I see what apps begin at start up?

Yeah, don't kill tasks. It's not "bad" for the phone necessarily but it will wear down your battery faster and cause lots of unexpected problems. Android has a built in task killer that doesn't need any help.

To see what's running on startup, first you shut down your phone, then start it up to get a fresh look at things. Go to phone settings > applications

On the droid 1 with android 2.1 you then go to manage applications > menu > filter > running

It's easier with android 2.2
