VZW Knows, also update notification

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time post here.
I just got off the phone after a nightmare of random reboots and so on and so forth. VZW send me a text today saying an update to my phone was available. Thinking I'd find out if it was simply to disable mobile tether or not I called in. The tech was surprised, but said he did see the notes on my account that the message was sent.
He said it was NOT 2.3, but another maintenance release, approved today for push tomorrow. All of this can be dismissed, however he did say something quite interesting. He said he couldn't fully help me because my phone was rooted. Obviously I denied that, and he said look man, I know it is. I said how? He replied that he could see that I was running DASbamf 2.1, which I am. Explained that it was part of the new system for the 4g phones. Believe me or not, I just wanted to put it out there that VZW can apparently tell, his words were that more than likely, it's pulled from when the phone is activated. Has anyone else heard of either of these?

Wait are you saying VZW can see what software we are running the moment we activate our phones? So if we root then they can just say our warranty is void???? If that's the case then it would make no difference if we unroot before we take it in to get it exchanged??

Well, obviously there will be some disbelief to this, but like I said, and as I included, this happened today.

I emailed HTC and ripped them a new one, they responded with this.

Dear jose moreno, We apologize for the issues you have experienced with the device rebooting after the previous update. We have been working diligently with Verizon since the issues were first identified to determine the exact cause so that they can be resolved. However, we have been informed that an update in question has started its initial launch. This a staggered Over the Air (OTA) update so you may not get immediately and we have no means to push the update to a specific unit. You can attempt a device check in to see if available for your phone yet. Open the phone dialer and dial *#*#2432546#*#*. The number should then go blank and you will look for a notification on the status bar for “Check in succeeded.” You can then tap Menu while on the Home screen followed by Settings>System Updates. If unavailable at this time, we recommend waiting a week or so for the notification to show on your phone as staggered releases will take some time to get to everyone. Feel free to contact us again should you have any further questions. If you feel more comfortable discussing issues by phone, you can contact Technical Support at 1-866-449-8358, 6 am to 1 am EST, 7 days a week.

So I'm gonna give it a try after work and see what happens.

Kinda makes me wanna unroot? But then again how do they know and if they did know I'm sure they would be sending out some.type of warranty void notice no?

Rooted HTC Thunderbolt

Now I'm glad I just have a solid old DX and a couple of original droids laying around. I believe the OP 100%. With LTE speeds they probably did add a way to tell if your rooted so they can protect there network.

Same here, DX and a D1 sitting in the closet, so I'm not too worried. I just find it to be amazing that he read it back to me. He was more or less like "don't bs me." haha.

Aren't warranty replacements or fixes actually handled through the phone manufacturer? Like motorola? Personally I got the feeling Verizon didn't care about rooting one way or the other except when it comes to "illegal" tethering? That is the only reason I can think of why they'd care
