Volume buttons wake the phone?

Not sure if this is common knowledge because I've never seen it discussed. I just discovered that Vol + or - if held down will wake the phone up. I had to try it on my D1 and D2, and neither had this feature. I usually use those if I the screen sleeps and I need to wake it right up. Doing that brings me to the last screen I was at if done quick enough. Apparently on the D3, even after sitting for a while the Volume buttons will wake it up to the lock screen though.

Does not wake my Droid 3 up, but wish it would, since the power button does not seem a very sturdy option.

Odd, a long press on either + or - wakes up both the D3's I have here.

even more odd... my volume (-) doesn't but my volume (+) does. interesting

edit - and it's just a short press of the + for me, not a long press

My D3 doesn't wake with pushing the volume buttons, but for some reason my lockscreen stopped working a little over a week ago (flashes it briefly, then it disappears). Wonder if these issues are related?

I noticed the same with mine. When charging, only the power button wakes it.

Correction - if I leave phone to lock itself due to screen time out, volume keys wake it up, but if I lock it by the power button, volume keys do not wake up the phone.
