Verizon to Stop Rebate Program!!!

Hopefully the phones will be priced @ 199.99 then instead of 299.99 with the rebate. Rebates are a scam anyway, yeah you get $100 back but you paid taxes on $299.99 so ultimately you end up paying more for the item than you would if it was just 199.99 to begin with.

Yeah, and hopefully I'm going to wake up tomorrow in my mid twenty's.

Hopefully I win either meganillions or power ball this weekend :-o

Your chances are better then mine.;)

It's pretty obvious at least to me that Verizon is changing their entire marketing strategy. I have no idea why they want to fix something that wasn't broken but it may end up biting them on the butt eventually.

I don't mind this as long as they lower the cost of the phone. I got my Droid X on release day for $99.00 NE2 over the phone with V. They took the $100.00 rebate directly off the price because I was already on backorder for the incredible and had been waiting, so I changed it over to the X.

As long as I'm paying a similar price for my next NE2 I'm cool.

According to the actual story source, AndroidCentral, the rebates are gone. BUT they will already be accounted for in the upfront price of a phone. So, instead of a phone being advertised as $199 AFTER $100 REBATE, the phone will simply be sold at $199 at the counter instead of $299.

...That's according to AndroidCentral.

Amazing how everything falls into place for the Verizon iPhone release. Verizon is the Super bowl's official sponsor. The Verizon iPhone available to general public the next day. The 30 day return policy changed to 14 days. You won't get a rebate on your iPhone with Verizon. Verizon's really bending over backwards to please Apple. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a limit on data usage, now.

I'm not going to lie... I'm more than a little disturbed by the direction that Verizon has been going recently. From what I've been seeing recently, Unlimited Data plans are on the way out, 4G plans are going to be much more expensive than the now-outdated 3G ($120-$240 more per year) plans. The in-store free-return policy has been cut in half. All new Android devices are heading toward a lock-down where Verizon will be able to control what you can and cannot do with the hardware and software. And now, they are completely eliminating the rebate program. All this while selling out to Apple to bring the iPhone on board.

I'm sorry, but I am not ok with all this. Sure, for now you will see the $199 prices, but only for phones that have already been out. Whats to keep them from charging full price on all handsets from now on? There is nothing, and thats the problem. Within 6 months, everything will be at the pre-rebate price.

If you ask me, Big Red is getting a little too full of itself, and I'm starting to think they are screwing around in areas they shouldn't. Sure, their LTE service might be nice, but I'm not sure its worth all this hassle. Especially when the network is about to be completely bogged down by iPhone users.

Verizon Getting Rid of Rebates For Devices More Than $150

Verizon is stopping their rebate program – in-store, anyway – pretty soon. There will be no mail-in rebates for devices which normally cost $150 or more, while devices cheaper than that may still be subject to the standard rebate system.

Yeah I agree with you and I understand your frustration as well as everyone else. But as of now, we don't know why VZW is doing everything that they are doing. It's easy for us all to sit here and jump to conclusions because what they currently have is working and we don't want it to change. But we'll just have to ride it out and see what's to come and if we don't like it we can jump ship, because I know I will. I give VZW $200 every month and I surely don't have a problem going else down the line and paying less money if I don't like the direction VZW takes me in.

I think VZW is indirectly telling us what LTE devices will sale for. As it stands right now you would pay $299 plus tax in store for a Droid X, 2, etc and get a $100 mail in rebate. So I'm thinking the price will still be $299 plus tax in store and this is what we will pay in the future for LTE capable devices. As these devices head towards store shelf retirement, VZW will continue to run there usual promotions. Of course the instant online rebate would be no more either.

As bad as it sounds, we knew a price jump was heading our way for LTE devices.
