Verizon is Dropping Prices on Equipment Protection Plans

As of February 1st, equipment protection plans will be changing and in a good way from what we’re seeing. Total Equipment Coveage (TEC) will be dropping from $7.99 down to $6.99, plus Wireless Phone Protection (WPP) will now be $5.18, which is down from $6.00. Their tablet plans appear to be unchanged even with the Motorola XOOM on the way, but for those of us looking to grab a Thunderbolt, this is good news.

Actually, look a bit closer. The TEC plan has dropped to $6.99; but notice the Extended Warranty is now a $1.81/month upcharge on top of the TEC plan. So the total price has gone up, since the EW was part of the $7.99 TEC. The total cost per month is now $8.80; so it has actually gone up $0.81/month.

Dropping of the price is something good to us.

Yeah....It makes sense to drop the monthly insurance fee and bump the replacement cost. Why should responsible users have to subsidize people who aren't?
