Solved Verizon customers get up to 2GB free data for using Android Pay

Thanks to @Mustang02 for the tip!

There's a promotion currently going on with Verizon & Android Pay.

Use AP once & get 1GB free data. Use it a third time & get another.

These free GBs last until the end of your current billing cycle by the look of the text I got after redeeming my first one. EDIT: They last for 2 months. I read the text wrong.

You may want to launch the AP app prior to paying and click through on the green rewards card to make sure it registers. Once you complete a payment, you get a button to redeem. That takes you to a website asking for your mobile number, then you receive a text from VZW with a verification code. Enter that & you're good to go.

I don't NEED the extra data, because I have a plan that fits my needs nicely, but I never say no to free. Just means I can do some extra streaming that I might've otherwise waited to do at home on wifi.

Think I'm going to wait to redeem the second one once I earn it. My billing cycle ends ends around the 3rd. No sense in wasting 2GB in a couple weeks time. I haven't even used half of my 6 yet.

Thanks for the tip guys! Wife asked me to pick up a few things on the way home today and I remembered that I pass a Walgreen's every day. Just got my 1GB of free data, don't really need it, but I'll burn through it streaming extra music from Play Stations! [emoji41] And...I got to amaze the clerk and other customers that wondered what the heck I was doing. He said "I don't think that thing works" and I said "sure it does". The woman behind me was shocked that I paid with my phone. Very cool. [emoji3]

One of my kids is not feeling good, some kind of sinus bug. I'm going back to Walgreen's twice tomorrow to get cold meds and use Android Pay. Don't "need" the extra data but since my billing cycle rolled over today I'll take 3GB for free for the next 29 days. Was going to buy cold meds anyway, might as well pay with my phone. What do you push on you're phone to make it happen when you're in the store?

OK not experienced in this but I'd guess it simply activates the pay process when you tap the phone to the terminal. Anyone can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

It depends on the terminal. But you have to setup Android Pay first. Once Android Pay is setup you just tap your phone to the pay terminal and enter your password / PIN, or open the app first then tap the terminal. It's pretty simple once you try it the first few times. I tried it at Walgreens and McDonalds (coffe only there...don't care for their food) and each terminal was a little different. One required the Android Pay app open first, the other did not.

In addition to my previous post, one other FYI. I only setup Android Pay and used it to get the free data from VZW and to try it out & say I used it. It's cool, and it's fun to see the other people in line say "What did you just do? How did you just pay?". But at the end of the day, it's just as easy and quicker to swipe my debit / credit card to pay. I tried Android Pay at Staples which is supposed to be a supporting partner and their pay terminals had the Android Pay logo, but it just did not work and the clerks had no idea what to do. If this was supported at more stores, it might become more commonly used.

I've used it quite a bit, considering how few places here take it.

You unlock the phone & two it to the terminal & it initiates the payment. If your phone is already unlocked, you have to enter your pin or use your fingerprint, so better to start with it off.

You also setup a pin for Android pay & have to enter that on the terminal because it essentially creates a virtual card with its own number & pin code that the machine reads.
