Verizon CFO Says They Will Have a Big Windows Phone Push Later in the Year

BRING IT!! This means the manufacturers will be pushing themselves to make higher quality phones for cheaper, because they want to sell more and have that "top spot"... who wins in that scenario??? We do :) I gladly welcome this news.

Honestly, I can't wait -I will have an upgrade coming around those days.
I want something new and fresh. I tried win8 on a iconia slate and it was rather a pleasant experience. Gingerbread pales in comparison. ICS is a different story: I'd like to see if Win8 can ofer a better experience than ICS.

If they offer sd card support (or at least storage access, and the same level of customization a pc does,) I'm replacing my razr.

If anything more competition may help prices drop a bit...

if microsoft does this right there will be several people leaving android and apple .. win8 is a big deal

I heard sales of the lumina exceeded expectations.
They are not selling like iphones, but that's good news regardless.

Your comment is hilarious due to the irony of stating nobody been buying WP's until now...

...And the real-world relationship between the huge marketing campaign occurring right now which is of course....convincing people to buy 'em!!!!

The concern I could see is that the different OS platforms will optimize different parts of the hardware. So a bleeding edge phone for android will just be mediocre with win. And vice-versa. So if VZW makes a big push for win phones, it could lead to neglecting android hardware. And we have a hard enough time getting the super awesome phones

I think Windows phones will drive Android to improve, but MS' mobile market share is so small that I just don't see them as much of a threat.

Hmm... This could be a problem. One of the reasons why the Windows Phone had an uphill battle in the United States was Microsoft and Nokia's horrible relationship with carriers. That obviously has changed and for the worse for us, I'm afraid. Of course, Verizon's embrace of Apple didn't hurt Android very much, and Verizon's initial embrace of Palm WebOS didn't help them very much, either. We shall have to see what happens, but it seems that Microsoft has been given a new lease on life in the mobile arena.

"you know Microsoft, just when I thought you couldn't possibly get any dumber, you go and do something like this...And totally redeem yourself!"

This seems to be shaping up to be the best thing since Verizon made the deal to replace Google search with Bing on most of their Android phones.

But really, go ahead, make the "Droid Windows Phone" or the "Windows Droid" or "Nokia Droid 900" or whatever the heck you want to call this unfortunately directed endeavor that is bound to waste millions of dollars more than their Kin line advertisements.

Microsoft, you just can't do phones well...so why don't you stop trying to ruin what you've got in your most successful line, i.e. Windows, by mucking it up with this "metro" BS and stick to what you know? Oh wait, I forgot about the apparent adage that 'if something isn't broke, fix the heck out of it till its not recognizable by your once proud customer base' that seems to be prevailing at Microsoft these days.

the only reason WP has such a low market share is because VZW, the biggest US carrier, only has one WP. The Trophy, and its a POS...just wait till we see WP8 commercials rivaling the Droid Does commercial. did anyone think of android before those commercials rolled out?

Who would want to use that ugly Metro interface?

MS should give up on the mobile market and concentrate on its forte, computer operating systems.

I agree. I keep going back to AT&T and playing with the Lumia 900 and if Windows 8 is anything like I think it will be I'll be all over one. Lumia is an awesome handset and I really believe the consumer will warm up to these phones really fast. They are also easier to use than an Android handset in my opinion

I almost want to buy into the "hype" of WP because of the hardware on the Lumia.. but the most of the OS is still.. ew.

Quoted for truth. Just checked out the Lumia at an AT&T store today. Dead sexy hardware, whackest of all OSs. Honestly, despite my hatred for all things Apple, I'd rock the iPhone before I'd deal with the uniformity that is Windows Phone.

I also notice that when commercials mention "grab our app on," Windows versions are never in the convo. Early adoption is one thing, and the likely stability is great, but Windows just doesn't know how to do sexy.

Windows 8 phones should be pretty impressive. I've been using a Trophy since July and it's fast, smooth, fluid and I haven't had it lock up, reboot or force close an app in that time. It does have some weaknesses, namely the camera and display, and the OS needs some refinement, but overall it is pretty nice. I'm glad to see Verizon is expressing more interest in WP.

Amen to that! If Android was gone tomorrow I'd rather rock an iPhone 4Gs or the upcoming iPhone 5 than live with Windows Phone. Heck I'd even give BlackBerry a chance before wandering to a decidedly lacking OS that thinks "smoking" Android on twitter posts is more important than actual functionality, or even security.*

WinPhone is just way to late to the game. Microsoft missed the game on this one when they could have had the advantage. And pushing Metro on Windows 8 users is only going to name me hate MS even more. Heck, if Google actually stepped up their game and made a real desktop OS, as opposed to Chrome OS that is only good if you only surf the web on your desktop, then I might be tempted to dump Windows for it.

And it doesn't look promising for the near future either as this article notes that VPN may not be available till Windows Phone 8.5!

VPN Support is in Windows 8 Beta build already, whether it makes it to the final build is anyones guess, but that would be a huge mistake if they took it out. I cannot see them removing it to be perfectly honest, but we shall see.
