Verizon Awarding Early Adopters

Not remotely interested in tethering! I just want unlimited data on a family plan and my upgrade! Okay, will someone tell me if we're aren't getting subsized phones why can't we get better prices on plans?

so if people actually sign up for unlimited tethering and use it for their home broadband how long before Verizon cries about it? lol

For once, it pays to be on the bleeding edge....

Verizon 4G LTE Unlimited Data Customers Will Have Separate $30 Unlimited Tethering Plan - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

When the free tethering trial ends on July 6th, it will be replaced the following day with a $30 UNLIMITED tethering plan. For people getting 4G phones AFTER July 6th, they will only be able to sign up for the $20 2GB tethering plan.

This well be available to anyone grandfathered on unlimited data as well, once they get a 4G phone; not just those getting a 4G phone prior to the 7th.

Have you tried using the tethering app built into the operating system? I thought there was a rumors that Verizon was able to block "illegal" tethering apps?

Since I'm rooted I get unlimited data and tether for just 30 bucks a month :)

BTW how are they going to update rooted devices? Or is it not an update just that they will block access through the network till you pay?

I think it's a network change, and if not I won't be accepting anything that will interfere with my root access.

This is good. Not only will we not need to switch to a tiered plan to use MHS/MBBC, but it sounds like we will be able to add/remove as a feature on a prorated basis.

Thanks, Robrecht

Yeah, that would really be the only time that I would use it. When I go on vacation, I could add it for the week or so. And when you're prorating unlimited for a week, it's still unlimited. :icon_ banana:

Sorry by gathering do you mean using the hot spot? I'm not real up to date on the tech talk but I know they say after July 6th I will have to pay extra $20 to keep the hot spot right? And new people they will charge $30? How do you get it free by rooting your phone? Sorry new to all of this

No. Right now, you are getting the mobile hotspot for free until July 6th, and you get unlimited tethering data. Verizon also said that the $20 2 GB tethering feature is "not compatible" with the LTE phones. The referenced leak is saying that if you have an LTE phone, beginning July 7th, you can still get unlimited tethering, but it will cost you $30 a month for that.

I guess there is some debate whether this pricing is only for existing LTE phone owners, or whether after July 7th, someone getting an LTE phone will get that pricing as well. The way I interpret the article, I believe that anyone getting an LTE phone AFTER July 6th can only get 2 GB for $20, while those with LTE phones before July 7th get the $30 plan.

As far as getting free tethering by rooting and using an app, there are also debates on whether Verizon can know whether you are using it and whether they are cracking down.
