Using Motorola Droid in Anchorage

Okay. I am moving to Anchorage, AK this February. I was there this past October and my Droid could send/receive text messages (no picture messages) and I could make and receive phone calls but could not use access Internet, etc. I have been doing some research and have read a million different things about what can be done. I read that if you allow your phone to roam, it will roam off the ACS towers without charging you. Has anyone had experience with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should really just call Verizon and ask them what kind of coverage they have in AK.

Slightly different scenario but when I lived in Fairbanks I had an ATT phone that was on my parent's family plan, they live in Houston. It worked great until ATT decided to stop supporting phones in AK, they gave us no warning, no notice not even a phone call to tell me my service would be stopped at a certain date. One day I woke up and I didn't have any kind of service. Now ATT is in AK but I really don't know about Verizon, I've heard roaming horror stories though so I wouldn't take any information as gospel until I heard it from a VZW reps mouth.
