USB Mass Storage - Connects but doesnt show up

I got a new computer and I am running Ubuntu 10.10. The same set up as my old computer, but on this one I am unable to see my droid as a mass storage device.

On the droid it connects fine, the droid guy stays orange and it claims to be connected, but I can not find my droid anywhere in my system to copy files to or from.

Please help!

mine was fine until about a week ago, when i installed an update.
on windows it shows up as a removable, but you can't access it
on linux my phone reboots, but then it does work
fool around with rebooting it, plugged in already, not, who knows
