You will have to flash back to stock to receive the update OTA. Just use the one click root method.

That is why I'm going to switch to the Incredible hd when it releases. Its 4g lte network and front facing camera.

I heard that you can root and get it but will have to unroot to get it OTA. However, I'm not sure if I'm right, and I don't know the advantages and disadvantages of each.

No. Its an add on to a root that allows for full market functionality.

Please do some reading on rooting.
