In your app drawer go to settings>accounts>Google and make sure contacts is selected to back up..

Is there any other email accounts you would have been backing those contacts up to? Do you remember when you added a contact where you decided to store it?

No, no other email in my phone.

Now that you mention it, whenever I would add a new contact, it never asked me where to save it. It just saved on my phones memory I guess.
