Mine already does, you have it plugged into your pc or wall for charging? I use the usb wall plug.

There is setting for it. I saw it while playing with one at the store. It was something like screen on while charging. Can't remember which setting menu it was though.

Got to Settings/Applications/Development
Then uncheck stay awake. and it will sleep while charging.

No, It's on by Design.

You can, of course, set it to airplane mode and switch off the screen, I assume.

You can turn the screen off by using the power button on top right. It doesn't turn off the phone, just lets the screen be off. I push the button all the time in between use so I don't pocket dial anyone while I have the phone in my pocket.
