Trouble setting ringtone for droid 2

Just got phone and cannot figure out how to set new ringtone for phone calls, emails, text messages. I think I have figured it out on how to do it for individuals but not for whole categories...any help would be greatly appreciated...I have not purchased additonal ringtones, would just like to change the default ringtone to something different for the above mentioned categories. Thank You

Every app that can have a notification associated with it has a settings menu, within that menu you should see a notification sound menu

The system ringtone should be in settings/sounds
