Because Motorola didn't quite make things clear regarding the Moto Maker options for the launch of the Moto X yesterday, we thought we would share a clarification article which details our speculation. One of the big disappointments yesterday for many was the revelation that the Moto Maker customization options would be temporarily exclusive to AT&T and would come to Verizon later. There is no word on when/if the Moto Maker program will come to Sprint or T-Mobile, although it definitely will not be available on their network at launch.

Still, one nagging thing kept gnawing at us. Why doesn't Motorola's landing page indicate which carrier the phone is destined for? Then it dawned on us, the Moto Maker program is probably still available to customers regardless of their carrier. The only difference is that you would have to pay full retail (unsubsidized) price to order it customized from Motorola and then use it on any of the major networks. We did some digging, and although there are several sites suggesting this same idea, there is no overt confirmation of this. We even reached out to our sources, but no one was able to confirm this.

For now we are just calling it a theory, but it appears you can get a Moto Maker customized device for either Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon or AT&T, but only if you order it through Motorola's site and pay full retail for it. Right now, the only carrier that is offering the Moto Maker program on a subsidized Moto X is AT&T. Verizon has confirmed they will get the program eventually too. Of course, we will keep you updated as more details emerge. If you find any obvious confirmation (or refutation) of this, please share it in the thread.

Perhaps Motorola should have had a live-stream of their event. It might have made for a smoother launch.

Update: Sadly, we have been able to clarify our clarification and it turned out to be wrong. Only the AT&T version of the Moto X is available through the Moto Maker website. We will share the details if/when that changes in the future.

Here's another link to the Moto Maker site: Motorola Mobility LLC. USA

You would still have to select a CDMA or GSM option. It can't be a single phone with radios for all carriers because I specifically remember seeing some specs listed for the said something like "EVDO Rev. A (CDMA version only)"

Edit: It's at the bottom of the motomaker page Motorola Mobility LLC. USA
