The best backup option?

Ok my brother wants to upgrade to JB but needs to backup his SMS and MMS for work. What is the best way to do that? He also has a droid razr maxx.

He would prefer free options if possible.

I don't think it will erase the texts unless you do a fdr.

But nonetheless, I have used SMS backup + in the past for the SMS side of it, don't know about pictures being saved. But it saves these to a folder in Gmail. Follow instructions, pretty simple.

SMS Backup & Restore. Works fine for texts. Not sure about the media part. Haven't tried that.

Edit: Just read that this app does not support MMS. Refer to previous reply.

Thanks for the great replies. Those were actually the two I told him to use. I told him that I didn't think there was a way to backup MMS messages so he will need to just save the files to his SD card. He wasn't planning to do the FDR. What is important for him to have copies of certain people's texts for legal reasons.

I don't really deal with MMS, so I couldn't help you there, but for SMS, the one I mentioned works great. I found it through another user on this site.
