Text messages slow to load

My droid maxx has started taking a while to load my text messages. At first it was like a second but now its around 10 seconds and just gets worse. I'm using the stock launcher and stock text app. Any ideas? Thanks.

I tried deleting my texts.. I was up to 4000 but it didn't help. This is the first phone to give me this problem. I had way more than that on my older droids, s3, s4 , etc

As a test (bc I don't use the stock one) I ran the stock one and everything listed quickly even on people I had 1k texts with (like a second). So the amount shouldn't be it as you deduced. ... Just tried it on my brothers phone too and they load fast. Maybe try clearing the cache?

I have almost 8k text messages and no slow down.
