Text message apps going crazy

I use Google messenger and the horrible stock app keeps taking over. It won't let me type or send text. Force stopped both, deleted the messenger app then reinstalled.... Nothing

Have you tried a third party app? I personally use Textra and never had an issue with it.

I've tried every messaging app and even used Hangouts for a bit, but found a few hiccups with it especially in threads with alot of messages. They wouldn't load, or it would force close. I never had that issue with Textra, which has always been fast and has never FC'd on me.

Try disabling the stock app

I also use Textra. No complaints what-so-ever.

Regarding Textra:I received a notification from them that I will see ads from now on. There is also an option to upgrade to the paid version. $0.99. I did the paid version.
