Text App (from a verizon rep)

I was talking to a verizon rep today, the nicest most helpful rep i have ever dealt with, and he told me not to purchase texting because there were apps that will allow me to text and that all i need is the data (duh) but not anything else but the app. Does anyone know which apps are good and which are bad and if they even work?

Well i'm on a business account and it's different. Unlimited texting is $20 and data $30, i don't have to pay for any minutes but the data and texting are separate.

Text isn't data at all. You can install apps that allow you to text other people that have the app. Pretty much like the blackberry messenger but on the Droid.

And what do you use to text? Because SMS texting uses the cell network and not the data network.

sorry, I stand corrected. It is part of my 450 min nation wide voice plan, its called nationwide talk and text

Yeah, texting is not data at all. But the VZW rep may have been referring to GV or TextPlus (as emlan stated) or maybe even Google Talk. All of those use the data network.

I use google voice and it text to everyone but it doesnt send MMS
