Terrible sound quality

I have been meaning to post this for a while but keep forgetting. Anyway, I am cheap and just have am FM transmitter in my car and I often plug my phone in and listen to Pandora. It sounded great on my incredible but since I got my thunderbolt it has very heavy static no matter what station I tune to. I have since given my girlfriend the incredible and when she is with me I play Pandora on it and its clear, but sounds awful on this. So I know its the phone not Pandora or the FM transmitter. This also sounds bad on slacker and other internet radio apps. Any suggestions?

Since no one answered, I figured I'd at least let other people know the only answer I have gotten from other forums is rooting and ROM'ing so that's what I shall do tonight. BAMF here I come.
