Hey all. So I got the OG Droid when it was released in '09. I never had any desire to root, I was happy with it the way it was. I'm eligible for my last upgrade and have been waiting for D3 to come out. After some thinking I've decided that I don't really want to spend $300-$400 on a phone. I love my OG Droid but it has become unbelievably laggy so I've decided to root. I figure if I F it up and it bricks then I'll just go ahead and get my new phone.
My question is this...

Should I do a factory reset before rooting to wipe everything clean or does rooting pretty much do that during the process?

(Sorry for the newb question.)

root get you a rom from Peter Alfonso
you will find your phone to run like a new phone - newest version of android that can run on the device. Better than the original!

I've been watching YouTube videos on how to root. I have RSD Lite set up. Now my only question is the other two files I'm supposed to place in the root location of my Droid.... Do I drag them in there as the .win or am I supposed to extract them off of my desktop?
