Are you on ics?? If so I would download matts utility 1.8 I think... don't do it yet.. make sure I'm right before you do this.. or you're gonna have a bad time.
What utility or process did you use to root your phone? Just curious because depending on how you rooted your phone, there may be some things you would do differently. I am familiar with Matt L Groff's utility 1.8 or 1.81.
Do you have voodoo root keeper installed? Use that to unroot then as jstafford mentions in the second post uninstall superuser from your phone's root directory.
If I'm not mistaken, Rootkeeper only saves a backup of Superuser, so if you "Temp Unroot" to take an OTA, I believe it saves SU somewhere else in the phone, and then restores it when you re-root. But it doesn't delete it.
I used Matt's utilities to root my phone. It doesn't get any easier.
Oops, my bad... my instructions are in reverse. Superuser is installed in the root directory and can not be uninstalled through typical means (like an uninstall button). So he would have to be rooted then go into the root directory of the phone to delete the superuser apk and then unroot using voodoo root keeper.
Is your phone currently rooted or still unrooted? If it is unrooted, then go to post #89 of the following thread to follow instructions to root with the 1.8 utility.
From voodoo root keeper, there is an option to delete SU backup. I believe this will get rid of the SU app itself but not certain. Then choose to unroot.
Thanks, worked like a charm. Should I do a factory reset to start off with clean razr maxx? Then root with Droid RAZR Utility 1.8 after I install everything again?

A factory reset is always a good thing, especially after something like this. Just be sure to back up anything you want to save, like contacts, texts, pics and videos.
