Stupid question about soft button lights

This may be a stupid question but I will ask anyway. When the screen is on are the soft button lights supposed to stay on? Mine do not stay on. They go on and off every few seconds. It does not bother me; just wanted to know if this is normal. It has done this since day one. I really don't need the light at all now that I have used it a while. Just asking......

You are right, stupid question, j/k. Mine are on all the time when the screen is on. I would like to dim them.

Nevermind, I think I answered my own question....duh. The soft button lights are controlled by the light sensor. In bright light, light is off; low light, light comes on. Please excuse the dumb question.....senior moment!

Screen filter app allows you to turn off the light behind the buttons (great for netflix).
