stuck on system version 6.12.173...how to update?

thack

Long story short I received a Razr. System version is 6.12.173 which is old (right?)..how do I update without having OTA's available? Thanks.

What cell phone market are you in, worded differently where do you live?

Is your phone rooted with bloatware disable or deleted?

If it is not have you checked for system updates manually by going into Settings>About Phone>System Updates

I'm located in central Wisconsin and have 3G/4G LTE coverage.

Phone is completely stock at the moment. No root. I just received and activated it two days ago.

Already checked for system updates through "about phone" but there is none available.

Coming from a rooted D3 so I know a little but not much ha.

That is quite strange because you are even one version behind the latest Gingerbread build which is 6.12.181, not even counting the fact that ICS is out for the phone which is system version 6.16.211.

Are you able to access all other functions of the phone, download APPS and things from the Play Store. I am assuming phone calls, data, emails and what not are all working?

Have you called Verizon to make sure you device is registered on their network correctly? You could try to power down the phone, pull out the SIM card for 10 seconds, put it back in and boot up and try checking for system updates again.

Are you trying to check for updates on WIFI or only on the network, if you have not tried it while connected to WIFI you can check that again.

Phone seems to be working properly. I have not called Verizon. Is there anything preventing me from using online leaks etc to update?

No I suppose not, only thing I am not sure of is if you need to update to the latest Gingerbread before the ICS update would take. I would say probably not that you could even go to ICS from .173 but I can't say with any certainty.

Though it appears there might be a deeper problem if you are unable to do the OTA updates, but you can surely approach it however you would like. Did you buy the phone from a retail store or was this a Craigslist or Ebay purchase?

It was a warranty/supervisor upgrade from 3G to 4G device. Therefore its a certified pre-owned. I already had to send the first RAZR back. Everything has gone through Verizon and is offical as can be.

I an guessing that phone has been in their stock for a very very long time, hence still on 173. The OTA for 173 is so long ago that it probably no longer available. Like Sydman said, because can't get the latest GB OTA update, the phone can not get the ICS OTA. Is it possible to force the latest GB update through Moto's website?
