Steps the changing ROMs

First - each rom will have their own set of instructions in their respective thread. Some require that you mount system some don't.

I was wondering if you meant the steps before the listed ones? Like...

1. Root your phone.
2. Get Droid X bootstrapper.
3. Hit bootstrap recovery.
4. Reboot recovery.
5. Etc

Did you mean all those details?

Each ROM is different. You have to read all instructions step by step. Some ask for wipe of all data/cache and others do not.

Always make a nandroid backup first no matter what so you can get back to where you are now if something goes wrong.

I read on it for a month before installing my first.

This is what I do (may be overkill, but works flawlessly each time....)
1. Root your phone (kinda obvious)
2. Get Droid X Bootstrap from the market (suggest that u donate - you'll be using this a lot)
3. Get Rom Manager as well (optional)
4. Run Droid X Bootstap and Select Bootstrap Recovery You should get a success box
5. Run Reboot Recovery - Places u in recovery mode
6. Run Backup and Restore then Backup your Rom (always a good idea)
7. Return to main screen Select wipe data/ ok / blah blah blah
8. Select Mounts and Storage
9. Select Format System/ Then Format Data/ Then Format Cache
10. Select Mount /system
11. Return to main screen
12. Install zip from sd card / navigate to folder containing rom
13. Install the zip (rom) / reboot
14. allow the system to come up wait for droid x to show
15. follow steps / log-in
16. Select all checkboxes accept anon usage
17. Allow signin process to complete
18. Go to the market select 'downloads' and exit, it will 'push' your purchased apps
19. wait about 20 minutes
20. Make sure you get the ... applications restored notification
21. If not shown, download the droidx bootstrap again

If you have a subtheme (or additional mods, fonts, etc follow the steps below)

22. Run Droid X Bootstap and Select Bootstrap Recovery
23. Run Reboot Recovery - Places u in recovery mode (again)
24. Install zip from sd card / navigate to folder containing rom
25. Install the zip (rom) / reboot

enjoy...

This has worked for me about 100 times (no kidding)
Thanks to everyone who has helped me....
Figured I would share the love :)

Oh yeah.... Backup, backup, backup....

Each has its advantages/ drawbacks. So far the rubix incognito combo has worked for me... Once checy and ud release, there will be some more options out there. Just look in the rom section and see what others are posting. peace.
