Sony just debuted their new Xperia Z1 flagship device at their pre-IFA press event. Could Sony's new "hero" device help the company rise to become a stronger competitor in the mobile world? Read on to find out...

Here's what we know:
  • 5-inch 1980 x 1080 Triluminous HD
  • Snapdragon 800 Quad-core processor
  • Adreno 330 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • 20.7MP rear camera
  • 16GB storage
  • MicroSD support
  • 3,000 mAh battery
  • NFC
  • Android 4.2.2
  • Optional attachable full camera QX lenses
  • IP55/IP58 rating water and dust proof (resistant)
  • Size: 144 x 74 x 8.5mm
  • Weight: 170g
Sony also shared several other innovations contained within the new phone. It looks like the Japanese tech company focused heavily on the camera this go around. Their new tech goes well beyond just the amazing 20.7 MegaPixels. For example the CMOS camera sensor is 1/2.3" and goes hand in hand with Sony's "G" lens. This uses a 27mm wide-angle glass and F2.0 aperture. This basically means the phone should take exceptional low-light pictures. In addition to this, Sony shared they are using their own hi-tech image processor. They call it "BIONZ".

Additionally, Sony is also touting several software features to go along with all this fancy new hardware. These include visual search, augmented reality, and various social add-ons, including something called "The Social One" software, which lets you perform live video streaming to Facebook.

It's hard to argue with specs like this. This new device from Sony seems to trump just about everything else out there. It has high-end internals, a spectacular camera, and MicroSD support. It is even water-proof to help protect your amazing investment. The phone will launch sometime in September. Now, if we can only get all the U.S. carriers to bring it to market...

We still don't know where the phone will be coming, other than we know it will be going to European and Asian markets first. We will update you guys when we get further details on that.

At least it has a micro-SD. LOL, there's never a phone with upgrades across the board (display, camera, CPU, ram, storage). But it's hard to knock anything

The interchangeable lenses are really interesting, but as others have said if you're going to carry those around why not just carry a real DSLR?

Well......there not really interchangeable lenses....They are just mini cameras. One has a 1" sensor with a 3x zoom(28-100), the other has a 1/2.3 with a 10x zoom(25-200). Neither shoot RAW, so they arent really serious tools anyhow. The smaller one is the only one that really makes sense.

Neither really make sense on the Z1 sense it has a 1/2.3 sensor and 3x lossless zoom.

Heres some more specs i found from android central

Sony’s “G Lens”: A lens with F2.0 and wide angle 27mm as well as 3x clear image zoom.
1/2.3-type Exmor RS for mobile CMOS image sensor with 20.7MP
Dust and water-resistant (IP55 & IP58), with acclaimed OmniBalance design featuring durable tempered glass and solid one-piece aluminium frame
Timeshift burst: Capture the perfect shot every time - Xperia Z1 takes 61 images in 2 seconds - a second before and after pressing the shutter

"Hey, that's a cool looking phone, what is it?"

"This is my Ho!"

If I didn't despise Sony so much I would be conflicted over this and the G2.

This is definitely an awesome phone. Only issue is I know nothing about Sony quality and whether or not they are actually going to provide timely upgrades
