Some questions on themes

Alright so I searched these and didn't find any posts about them but I have dial up so it could've just been behaving oddly. I go outside a lot to look at the stars and my problem is that the droid light messes my vision up. I wanted to get a red theme since I can't just change my back light color to a red (which would be awesome) since red doesn't mess up vision at night (proven). I found themes and went to go get the home replacement app(s) to use one and noticed that it would have access to services that cost me money so I didn't install. Basically I want to know if its gonna cost me a ton of money because its using these services (however it does that exactly). Any information is appreciated. Thanks

If you root you will be able to get pretty much any red theme that you want for next to nothing and a little bit of time.
